Energy Healing - Science Or Metaphysical Dead End?

Energy Healing - Science Or Metaphysical Dead End?

Energy Healing – Science Or Metaphysical Dead End?

Barbara Brennan is a leading authority on energy healing. Her book, Hands of Light: A Guide to Healing Through the Human Energy Field, has become a kind of bible in the field of spiritual healing. This article explores the world of energy healing and Barbara Brennan’s healing science.

Barbara Brennan’s energy healing or healing science describes a model of the human body that includes chakras (focal points for the reception and transmission of cosmic energy) and auras (fields of subtle, luminous radiation surrounding the body). Energy healing is based on an esoteric understanding of how the human energy fields interact with each other and how to reconnect lines that become broken.

Brennan’s teachings describe a seven-layer model of the human energy field, each layer being structured of differing frequencies and kinds of energy and performing different functions. All disease begins as a distortion on the 7th level of the auric field and works its way down through the layers of the aura into the physical body.

During the healing process the healer works intimately with these levels of the auric field and with the chakras. Brennan believes she can teach people to work on these energy levels to heal patients. She started the Barbara Brennan School of Healing to train professional healers.

There is far more to Barbara Brennan’s healing science than mapping energy fields. Her biography would make fascinating reading. She earned a degree in Physics and worked for NASA at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland. Later, she worked with Eva and John Pierrakos, who founded a system for self-transformation called the Pathwork.

Eva Pierrakos channeled lectures from a spiritual entity that came to be called “the Guide.” The lecture material offered profound insight into the nature of life. John Pierrakos worked with Dr Wilhelm Reich who discovered a physical, biological energy in all living matter that he called “orgone.”

It is easy to see the influence of Eva and John Pierrakos and the Pathwork in Brennan’s healing science. She worked with them and became a practitioner in Pathwork and core energetics. Core energetics is based on a deep understanding of the ways in which energy and consciousness work together in the transformative process of healing.

Brennan says she receives intuitive messages about her clients during sessions. Her books draw on messages channeled from Heyoan, who she describes as her spiritual guide. It all adds up to a woman who is profoundly intelligent and deeply spiritual.

I’m still not convinced the focus on energy is anything more than a dead end in the search for the key to healing. Beneficial results are more likely due to mental interaction between the healer and patient. That being said, Dr. Brennan sounds like a fascinating teacher. Her book, Hands of Light is must reading for anyone who wants to know more about her teachings and her healing science.

Everyone Has Energy Healing

Everyone Has Energy Healing

Everyone Has Energy Healing.

Many people have the mistaken belief that only a limited number of folks have healing energy. This is an incorrect assumption. Everyone has the ability to use healing energy to assist someone in need.

Instinctive Actions Demonstrating Healing Energy

Think about times when you have done one of the following to comfort another… or someone to you:

  • When hurt, immediately placed your hand on the wound or bruise
  • Kissed the hurt to make it better
  • Rubbed a child’s back when s/he was ill or feelings were hurt
  • Held someone’s hand who was having a tough time
  • Stayed with someone who was in need due to illness or crisis

The Confusion between Healing and Curing

Curing relates to the ending of a disease. For instance, medical science is looking for the “cure” for cancer. Healing can include curing, but is not necessarily curing. Curing is on the physical level, while the other is on the emotional, mental and spiritual level.

For instance, when you hold someone’s hand who is hurting, you are not curing anything. You are, however, bringing support and comfort. This support calms the emotions, reduces stress and allows the body to marshal its own regenerative forces to get better.

It’s been close to 15 years since a dear friend died at the age of 35 from colon cancer. One day I was bringing her back from the doctor and we stopped to have a snack. As she went to get something she turned and said, “I hate to think it took cancer for me to find out I was loved. I do know I am loved.”

Although she left due to the cancer she was healed of mind and spirit.

Where is Your Healing Energy?

Your heart is the source of your healing energy. Your love, caring and compassion are all signs it is active. When you kiss a child’s hurt, you are comforting the little one and saying, “I care for you. All will be OK.” For the small hurts in life that is often all that is needed.

For the overwhelming hurts, debilitating disease, trauma, loss of a loved one, you send healing energy when you give of yourself to assist the other. You may not be able to “do” anything, but you can be present. Most of the time words are not necessary. The gentleness, the caring, that pours out of you soothes and comforts.

Everyone has healing energy. It is found in the openness of your heart.

Healing Intuition

Healing Intuition

Healing Intuitions

To have any meaning at all, the word ‘intuition’ must have some associations within your mind. If you were to be asked, “what is intuition” you could probably come up with something to say. A more difficult question such as “how do you know your intuition is active, or accurate for that matter?” would be hard to answer.

So, lets make some postulations…

Intuition is…”the power or faculty of attaining to direct knowledge or cognition without evident rational thought and inference” as taken from Miriam-Webster online dictionary.

Intuition is…inborn. It is as much a faculty of our consciousness as is sight and sound, taste and smell, touch and kinaethetics.

Intuition is…damaged. It is one of our ‘senses,’ if you will, a way of knowing; and yet, it is wounded. It needs to be healed.

Healing intuition is an imaginary mental exercise. It is a meditation. It is a game. The following paragraphs will lay out the general process.

If you could give a color to your intuition, what would it be? And, what shape would that color take?

Look, within your mind’s eye, and see this colored shape. This is a visual representation of your intuition, of your ‘power or faculty of attaining to direct knowledge or cognition without evident rational thought and inference.’

Imagine yourself in a theatre. You are in the audience. No one else is present. You can see an empty stage in front of you beyond the empty chairs of the theatre. On the stage, you can see intuition, the colored shape you materialized in your mind’s eye. Look at intuition…and say, ‘thank you.’

Thanking your intuition is acknowledging its power in your life. Just because it is wounded and damaged, does not mean it has not been active. However, being wounded and damaged, the activity has been distorted or even withheld.

After you say thank you, observe any changes; changes in hue, brightness, texture, motion. Intuition can respond to you. It communicates in symbols; visual symbols such as colors and shapes. It can also respond to you in sound. And, it can respond to you in what is referred to as ‘kinaesthetics.’ Kinaesthetics is perception of movement within the body: muscles, joints, tendons, nerves.

In establishing a communication link with intuition, the first task is to respect the incredible intelligence behind it. So, we thank it for its participation in our life, at whatever level it may be operating.

If it appears that the colored shape upon the stage, i.e., your visual representation of intuition, has not vanished, or given some visual signal of withdrawing or shutting down, then you can answer this next question.

Where in your body do you feel this colored shape? Where in your body do you feel intuition?

If intuition has vanished from the stage or withdrawn, shut down, withered away or in some way appears to reject, deny or not acknowledge the ‘thank you’ then you accept that. You end your little imaginative game. However, you do this again the next day, first thing upon awakening, and again in bed at night. You just visualize intuition, as a colored shape, on the stage, and say ‘thank you.’ Observe any response. Continue for days, maybe weeks or even months, until you see intuition respond favorably to your sincere thanks.

The second task is to establish a rudimentary communication link. Visualizing intuition on the stage, you say to it “I would like to communicate with you; I would need to know what a ‘yes’ signal is. Will you show me a ‘yes’ signal?” Observe any response; could be visual, could be auditory, could be kinaesthetic. That response from then on means ‘yes.’ After every response you receive from your intuition, you say ‘thank you.’ You then ask for a ‘no’ signal and observe for response. Every time intuition responds, you say ‘thank you.’

If you have established the rudimentary communication link between you, i.e., your conscious mind, the mind that is reading this and understanding it, the mind that is aware of its surroundings and a ‘self’ which is ‘you, then you have accomplished a lot. You have acknowledged and honored your intuition and have established a communication link with it. Already, healing is occurring…

Asking closed questions of the intuition, i.e., questions that can only be answered with a yes or no builds a relationship. You can ask your intuition anything, as long as the answer can only be yes or no. However, if you ask silly and ridiculous questions, you will likely get similar answers. Questions of importance, relevance and meaning for you personally tend to yield more significant results. There is an art to asking questions. The proper use of language is necessary. And, intuition is not always literal; in fact, it is far more often symbolic. Intuition is ‘knowing’ yourself, knowing your needs, your options, your strengths, what’s possible, what’s probable, various courses of action, and potential consequences. Intuition is comprehensive, holistic and ecological. It can take into account factors the conscious mind easily ignores or is not capable of grasping. It is a faculty, a power, a way of knowing, without rational thought…or inference. That knowing can be communicated to the conscious mind, if the conscious mind is open to it.

And, remember, intuition is damaged. It is wounded. It has been traumatized, repeatedly, by the overwhelming forces of cultural and familial conditioning. It may not be ‘thinking’ right; it may be scared of punishment, recrimination or ridicule. It may be paralyzed with fear. It may have even been terrorized to the point of abandoning its link with you. Healing intuition is to simply be by its side. For some, this imaginative link we created in the previous paragraphs was established after the first reading. For others, weeks of simply visualizing the colored shape and saying ‘thank you’ will be needed. Intuition is subtle, delicate, extra-ordinarily sensitive; it may also be withdrawn and hiding, unsure and uncertain of your sincerity, awaiting to be acknowledged, and employed in life as one of your most valuable inner resources.

Energy Healing Session

Energy Healing Session

Energy Healing | A Brief Session Overview

Energy healing brings greater health, balance and well-being. Energetic blocks and distortions are transmuted, leading to personal growth and self-transformation.

The human energy field is in one-to-one correspondence with the physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual aspects of our lives. By working directly on the human energy field it is possible to affect each of these domains.

The healer makes an assessment of the physical and psychological health of the client through dialogue and observing the energy field. The client then lies down on the healing table, while the healer uses breathing and meditative techniques to channel energy through his own field and onto the client’s field.

As the client heals and becomes more in touch with their true longings, they gradually start resonating more harmoniously with the universe, thus attracting the right people, the right places, and the right knowledge to live a fulfilling life.

A strong commitment from the client is required to walk the path of self-exploration and move forward through the journey of healing. The healer is only a guide that assists the client on his or her path. The client is fully responsible for how deep he or she wants to go.

Reiki Energy Healing

Reiki Energy Healing

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a form of energy healing. In other words, as I described in my article on What is Energy Healing?”, it is essentially a therapeutic modality that seeks to restore health by working on the energetic body of individuals.

The beauty of Reiki is that it is one of the simplest forms of energy work around and is thus one of the easiest ways for people to learn basic healing work and immediately start using it in their lives with friends, family and even pets!

This is also probably the reason why Reiki has spread so quickly all around the world and is by far the mostly widely known energy healing modality.

There are many different variants of Reiki, but if you gloss over the differences that exist between the different systems, styles and lineages of Reiki, it is without a doubt also the most widely used form of energy healing on the planet today.

So how does Reiki work? And how does it compare with other energy healing modalities?

From the perspective of the person receiving Reiki, in a typical session, one would lie down on a healing table and then the Reiki practitioner would lay down his hands gently on one?s body and transmit healing energies. Traditionally, Reiki practitioners start with their hands at the head and then work their way down to the feet.

Additionally, it is worth noting that unlike some other energy healing modalities, Reiki is primarily hands on. There are healing modalities which are primarily hands off, in which case the healer works on the aura without touching the physical body. And there are modalities which use techniques that are both hands on and hands off.

But in the case of Reiki, the healer will rarely work hands off the body unless there are specific reasons for that such as the client feeling physically or psychologically uncomfortable by being touched in that area of their body.

So what makes Reiki special or unique?

The main advantage of Reiki is truly how easy it is for anyone to learn. Some energy healing modalities take years to learn and even more years to master. But Reiki, at least in the way it is taught in the West, is a modality that one can learn and immediately start using after just one weekend of training!

The only thing you need to do to start giving your own Reiki treatments is to sign up for a weekend workshop with a Reiki master of your choice. The Reiki master will then teach you a sequence of hand positions to be followed when working on a client.

And more importantly, you will receive a Reiki attunement.

This is how Reiki is passed from one generation of practitioners to the next. As the word suggests, there is some kind of tuning process going on. An analogy you can think of is that of tuning a musical instrument with the aid of a tuning fork. The Reiki master transmits a specific frequency of energy to the Reiki student.

This opens up certain energetic channels in the student, which allows the student to be able to synthesize the same sort of healing frequencies as the master. I suspect that different lineages of Reiki probably transmit slightly different frequencies, but overall the attunement process guarantees that there is a fairly consistent range of healing frequencies that all Reiki healers are able to deliver.

Having said this, each Reiki healer you go to is going to provide you with a slightly different experience based on their own quirks, personality traits and qualities. Thus, if you do go so a Reiki healer choose one that suits you!
